CALL FOR ABSTRACTS

 

The Association for Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia and Critical Care (ACTACC) invite prospective authors to submit their abstracts for presentation at our international Annual Scientific Meeting in 2020.

 

Meeting Details

Monday 2nd & Tuesday 3rd November 2020, Principal Grand Central Hotel, Glasgow.

Abstract Categories

Successful abstracts will be eligible for either poster or oral presentation.

There will be three categories this year:

  1. Case report

  2. Audit and Quality Improvement

  3. Research

 

Prizes

The top three submissions in each category will be invited to give an oral presentation on the morning of Tuesday 3rd November.

A prize of £125 will be given to the winner of each category as well as a prize for best poster.

Publication

High scoring abstracts will be published in the BJA.

Also all meeting abstracts chosen for either oral or poster will be published within the electronic meeting booklet which will be made available to registered delegates.

Topics

Suggested topics, which may be related to either adult or paediatric practice, include:

 

  • Cardiac anaesthesia, surgery and peri-operative care

  • Thoracic anaesthesia, surgery and peri-operative care

  • Cardiothoracic critical care

  • Congenital heart disease

  • Perfusion

  • Clinical governance, quality improvement and education

  • Management of cardiorespiratory arrest

Guidance Notes for Authors

Please submit your abstract using the abstract submission system (max. 420 words including references).

Suggested sections:

 

  • Title and Authors with associated Grades and Institutions

  • Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion or Conclusions (flexible depending on type of submission, e.g. case report may not have a Methods or Results section)

    • Please note that headings are not required​ within the body of the abstract

  • Maximum 1 Figure (table, graph or image) – please provide in the body of the abstract

    • For publication, figures must be readable when reproduced at an approximate column width of 85mm as per BJA style.

    • Further editing may be required prior to publication​

  • Maximum 3 References (included in word count and should be cited as per the below example:

    • Czosnyka M, Smielewski P, Kirkpatrick P, et al. Neurosurgery 1997; 41: 7–11.

Abstract submission dates

Submission deadline: Friday 18th September 2020

Submission notification date: Friday 2nd October 2020
